Volunteer Marine Rescue Gladstone welcomes membership from all boat owners, and non boat owners, who are keen to support the activities of our volunteer rescue service, and assist with special skills. Membership minimises the financial risk of a mishap, and members are able to take advantage of the facilities and services available.
The cost of active membership is $15 annually, and requires the member to volunteer his/her services for a minimum of 40 hours per year. The services can involve rescue boat crew, radio duties, rescue coordination, vessel maintenance, radio repeater site maintenance, fund raising, and assisting with administration. Rescue boat crew members are rostered for duty one week in five, and are required to achieve mandatory qualifications, and to participate in regular training activities to maintain a level of competence. The cost of ordinary (associate) membership is $70 annually. Apply at the base station Flinders Parade for an application form or download here Membership and forward it to the base for processing .
If a form is faxed to VMRG don't include any payment details as our Treasurer will be in touch to arrange payment. Following your application you will be contacted and invited to an induction session and your membership card and receipt will be mailed out to you.
Whilst
the prime role of VMRG is to respond to emergency and life threatening situations,
assistance is available within our capacity, to all mariners for breakdowns
and misadventure. Our operational area extends generally from Sea Hill - Cape
Capricorn in the north, to Bustard Head in the south, and to the adjacent offshore
reefs. Rescue assistance to most members is free but long or difficult recoveries
will incur some cost to the member, but assistance to non members will incur
a callout fee and vessel operating costs.
