Communications.

A marine frequency transmitter repeater station provides extended coverage of VHF Ch. 16, 80 and 82, the latter being monitored on a 24 hour basis.

VMR Gladstone maintains an outpost watch weekdays between 0630 hrs and 1800 hrs. on VHF Ch. 82. The base station at Flinders Parade is manned by a radio operator at weekends and public holidays between 0800 hrs and 1800 hrs, monitoring VHF Ch. 13,16, 73, 80, 82,   27mhz Ch. 88, and HF ch. 2182, 2524, and 4125 mhz. Outside of these hours, Gladstone Harbour Control monitors VHF Ch. 16 and 82 for emergency traffic only.

Weather reports and tidal information are available from VMRG on request during our manned hours. Rockhampton Meteorological Office broadcasts forecasts and reports on VHF Ch. 82 daily at 0640 hrs., 1140 hrs., and 1640 hrs.

Radio Communications with VMRG. VMRGladstone call sign is VMR446. For routine calls, use VHF Ch. 82.   27 mhz frequencies are limited in range in the area and boatowners are urged to have a VHF radio. Have your VHF radio tuned to "International", not "US".

In the interests of boating safety, always log on with VMRG when navigating in our area, using VHF Ch. 82. You will be requested to supply your vessel name, registration number or VMRG member number as well as persons on board, destination ETR. Vessel over 10 M must contact Gladstone Harbour Control on Ch 16 before entering pilotage area. When departing our area, log on with the next region then log off with VMRG.

In conjunction with Water Police and Ambulance, VMRG also assists with emergency medical evacuations from offshore islands.
VHF Radios are available for hire for offshore camping parties. Inquire at the base. Gladstone Marina can be contacted on VHF Ch. 82 between 0800 hrs. and 1700 hrs.

When navigating the main Gladstone shipping channel at night, check for shipping traffic with Harbour control on VHF Ch. 13.
